In 1950, all the country was looking for uranium, and so were Olive and Ken White, Sr. The only Geiger Counters available used headphones and Mr. White quickly learned that headphones created a problem in rattlesnake country. So he invented a better product. In 1958, the U.S. government announced it would no longer purchase uranium and soon Mr. White was persuaded to build a metal detector. Orders and requests for information poured in and marked the beginning of the White's we know.

The company is currently led by Ken and Mary White, guided by the same philosophy that was so successful for Ken's father 60 years ago. "Give the customers quality and value, and treat your employees like family." White's currently builds metal detectors for hobby, industry, and security, in Sweet Home, Oregon with a second facility in Inverness, Scotland that serves Europe and Asia.
