New Spider Coil Evaluation Feb 14, 2007
1. Shielding - No audio response with bumping on the bottom in Salt Water.
Very stable.
2. Target Center - Very close to perfect, does need a bit of clearance from
target for accurate reading.
3. Dynamic Detection Range
a. Size & Depth - Gold Nugget .6 Grams - Showed a very impressive increase of
100% in depth from 3 inches to 6 inches with a much sharper audio response than
the standard 950 loop. Coin size targets also responded with more depth and
stability than the 950 loop, estimated 15.5 max with the Spider and 13.5 max
with the 950 for an increase of approximately 15%.
4. Specific Gravity - Almost zero, floats just enough to be positive. A slightly
heaver loop cover should be enough to use as a water machine loop. The weight of
the lower rod is enough to cause a negative specific gravity.
5. Waterproof - 100%
6. Scanning Width - Seems to be very close to the standard 950 loop.
7. Construction Strength - Pro-Type is twisted enough that the loop will not lay
flat. Slight budge in the bottom center.
8. Durability - Earpiece is tapered to the top. I would like to see the entire
earpiece the same thickness.
9. Weight - Is normal for a Spider loop this size. Moving the ear pieces forward
just a little would improve the feel and make the loop appear to be lighter.
10. White's identifiable loop - Whites Logo should be imprinted forward center top.
11. Salt Water Operation - Used on all three models. DFX and MXT both were
extremely stable in both search modes with no apparent loss of depth. Even the
all metal was stable both in wet salt sand and in the water. The M6 had a bit of
trouble in the all metal mode but was overcome with lowering the sens to 60/65.
Overall the loop is one of the best I have ever seen with extremely good
response on smaller targets with excellent depth and target separation in both
good and bad ground. Looks like a sure winner. Let's sell some!
