Hello White's Electronics, I just wanted to tell you about my first Seated Liberty Half dollar find! I've been detecting for about 16 years now and I've found plenty of old coins in my time, but living here in Oregon we don't find a lot of Seated Liberty type coins. That all changed for me one day late May 2009! I took the day off of work to take a little road trip to do some detecting. I ended up in Corvallis Oregon ~ a nice town with some neat old history! I found some open grass that wasn't too far from The Oregon State University campus. After detecting for a few hours I only dug a few wheat cents and some modern clad coins, nothing too exciting ~ the sun was starting to set, it was getting late and the city street lights had come on. I kept detecting while I worked my way back to where I parked my car. Then it happened... a nice soft deep sounding target that read 89/90 on my XLT. I carefully pinpointed the target and dug down about 7 or 8 inches and uncovered a 1876 Seated Liberty Half dollar! WOOHOO!!!! This is only my second Seated Liberty type coin that I've ever dug! Needless to say I was very excitied! Neil M. |
