Dear Whites, I would like to submit this story to your "Treasure Stories" feature! I began metal detecting about 6 weeks ago and was having a blast. Approximately two weeks ago, I dumped the detector that I had just purchased (much to the displeasure of my wife), and bought a White’s XLT. I had hunted a Civil War training camp several times prior to purchasing the XLT, after getting my White’s detector I immediately went back to the camp with my 4 year old daughter (assistant digger) at my side. While searching I hit a strong quarter signal that displayed a depth of 6.5”. While digging the hole, I noticed a very shinny silver sticking out of the side. I was overjoyed! I expected to see the first silver coin with my new detector. I pulled it out of the ground and it was better than a silver coin! I had found what appeared to be an old copper and silver hair clip! I ran home and cleaned it up, after doing some quick research on the internet (and without my success) I was off to the antique store. The owner told me that is was on 1860’s Victorian era stag pin in beautiful condition. Oh, and the copper was GOLD!!! She estimated the value at $250. I'll have to go back and research all the areas I checked with the other detector! I am a White’s customer for life, Thank You, Aaron G. in St. Charles, IL |
