Dear White's
Early last year I wrote to tell you how much I loved the DFX. I was amazed at the finds I made with the detector. I never thought there could be a better detector on the market. I was wrong... Late last year I decided to buy a Spectra V3. I immediately started finding old silver coins. In fact, I was finding Mercury Dimes on nearly every outing! Then winter hit, and as probably know it hit hard here in the North East. We had snow in December, and it seemed like it would never end. I used the time to read up on the detector and also added a few accessory coils. Finally the weather broke this month and the remaining snow melted away. I was ready with my V3. My few first metal detecting outings of 2010 were a success with some more Mercury Dimes, some 18th century pewter flat buttons, and two King George colonial copper coins. I got out again last weekend with a friend who just purchased another brand detector, so it was a good chance to see how the V3 performed against its competition. We hit an area that has produced many good finds in the past ranging from the late 1600's to the early 1800's. After a few minutes of digging I started finding many small cuff buttons. These tiny buttons were virtually invisible to my friend's detector. After a few hours of digging, I found a few more buttons, another old copper coin and a lot of shotgun shells. Then I got a questionable deep signal. I called my friend over to see what his detector said. He swept his search coil over it and said "shotgun shell". I said "I don't think so. It sounds too good for a shotgun shell, and it is a bit too deep." I dug a nice deep plug and nearly fell over when I saw what was still in the hole. A glint of gold glistened in the bright midday sun. I removed it from its resting place and examined it. At first I thought I found a coin, but when I looked at the back I realized it was a brooch pin or a watch fob with the initials "L.H." engraved on the back. These initials match the name of the original owner of the property from the late 1700's to the early 1800's. I had found a 200 year old piece of gold jewelry! I just wanted to tell you that the Spectra V3 is a great detector that never lets me down! It is extremely sensitive to small deeply buried items that are virtually invisible to other detectors. Great Job, White's! Neil |
