XLT finds old gold jewelry and brings back family memories

I grew up in the same area where my mother was born here in California. She would tell me stories about my Grandfather, and how he would take her for walks at one of our local parks. She continued the tradition with me, and I would go for walks with her in the same park when I was young. Many years later I became interested in the hobby of metal detecting. As soon as I bought my White's XLT, I knew I would have fun exploring the same old park that had seen 3 generations of visitors from my family.

Visiting the park was like going down memory lane. I think I gravitated toward the places my mother took me, and those spots that she had pointed out, where she had been taken with her father. I saw one area that looked like it would have been a nice place to sit, and I began detecting. I was surprised as my XLT was beginning to locate a few old bullets and shells in this now peaceful area. As I wandered to the edge of the area, I received another low signal that made me think that it could be another bullet (but those low signals can also be gold). To my surprise, as I got to the bottom of the hole that was only a few inches deep, I saw the flash of gold from an old, gold locket!

When I got home, I carefully opened the gold locket and could see that it still had a small picture in it. The old black and white photo had faded away long ago. I was hoping to find some clues to help me find out how old it was, and as I removed the photo, I found a jeweler's hallmark/logo. After some research, I discovered that the jeweler's mark was dated 1904 - 1922. This locket may have been dropped around the time that my grandfather would take my mother for walks there in the park. It was a lot of fun showing my mother the locket and talking about the past years.

Please relay my sincere thanks to everyone there on the White's team!
