At 8pm on Monday, 3 Aug 09 I received a heart wrenching phone call from my daughter. She had lost her wedding ring in a field and could I drive down to Kentucky to find it. But of course I will drive over 400 miles to see you this weekend. She promised me she would have written permission for me when I arrived.Packed up my partner (wife), took off work four hours early and headed south on Friday.

Saturday I'm ready to hunt, permission in hand, the sun is out, the temp is hot and the lawn mowers are only a block away headed our way. My first look at the grass field shocks me. It is at least six football fields in size and it is getting hotter. I ask her where and she walks out onto the field about fifty yards and sits down. At least it wasn't in the middle. I took a heading and hunted straight lines back and forth trying to keep overlapping.

The first hour I found a man's 14-K white gold wedding band, keep trying. The second hour I found the award medal. BREAK TIME, I'm dripping wet. After lunch we go back, the mowers quit, must have been too hot to work. Finally after another hour and more sweat I found the elusive wedding band.

The Non-commissioned Officers Award medal has a serial number on the back so it will be traced to the owner. The extra ring has inquires as to its owner. The three diamond wedding ring was hard to get back off a finger even to take pictures. I haven't found very much jewelry the last few years with another brand detector. Now with my V3 I have three 14-K gold rings in one month plus other jewelry. Thanks White's for giving new life to this old-timer in this great hobby/sport.

Update: The medal was turned over to the NCOA due to membership confidentiality rules for its return. Both rings are returned to owner now.
