Many years of metal detecting has finally paid off - one karat diamond platinum wedding band
and 59 coins.
I have been metal detecting since the 1980's. Not seriously, however, mainly on vacation at
the beach. Each year I would take along a cheap brand of detector and find nothing but junk.
This year I decided to buy a good detector, so I looked online to find the closest authorized
White's dealer. We called Tom's Detectors. He was very helpful, and took the time to help
us find a good detector that is simple to use. I chose the Prizm 5 model. Tom made sure
I knew how to use it before I left his store when I went to pick it up on that Thursday.
I started using the new detector at the beach on the following Monday, and I found several
coins as well as some junk, but the detector was very accurate. Wednesday I was out detecting
late in the afternoon, and there were 2 other men detecting in the same area. One had a top
name brand metal detector, but the other man's detector I did not recognize. I got a signal
close to the water and it showed that there was a nickel or a pull tab. So I scooped and
thought that I had found a bottle cap. As I looked closer, I realized that it was a ring. I
got nervous because of the other men behind me and dropped the ring in the sand, but I picked
it up and headed back to the motel to show my wife and when I handed the ring to her and she
noticed the PLAT 950 inside she called her sister who knew a lot about jewelry, and she said
this would be described as A GEM OF A FIND! We were so excited that we called Tom at Tom's
Detectors to let him know about our find. In less than a week our PRIZM 5 METAL DETECTOR
paid for itself. We took the ring to a couple of jewelers and were informed the ring would
cost about $2500.00 or more retail and $1500.00 in its present condition. One of the jewelers,
who also happened to do metal detecting as a hobby, was really surprised that we found the
ring. He told us that platinum was hard to detect.
We have become serious about hunting more than just on vacation. Since the vacation, we have
found coins and other items in our own yard. Our son got permission to take the metal
detector to an old College and he found several coins, an old gun and many other items. He
loves this as a new hobby. Be forewarned, if you try it, you will get hooked.
Thank you White's for you products and thanks for having such a great dealer as Tom Copeland!
