I usually try to hit the beaches very early for two reasons, the first is easy: to beat the time when you have to pay for admission; and second: to beat the crowds. This Sunday morning I decided to use a little time off from our vacation travel to hit a nice beach that I had noticed. The previous day it had seemed to be pretty packed, so, worst case scenario, I figured that I could pick up a bunch of coins to add to my coin count for the year.

My feeling was correct, over the next several hours I did manage to add 132 coins for a total face of $16.32, not a bad day at all. However, the best was yet to come. I decided to work my way out of the beach to the side exit and finally got a nice hit. In my first scoop I heard a nice sound and saw a wedding band. If you have ever found platinum you know what I mean when I say that you know it immediately. The ring was nice and heavy, and I was staring at five (about) ten point diamonds! It was truly a beauty.

I quickly put it away and almost laughed out loud. Then I thought 'wouldn't it be great to find the matching engagement ring?' [Yes, I really did think that. And, no, I had NEVER found an engagement ring before. Although, when asked, I always said: "no, I haven't found one, but it is out there waiting for me."] Well, to my total shock it appeared on the next hit. So, now I can finally answer that question: Have you ever found an engagement ring? With a "yes!"

But I am still looking for my first gold coin.
