Dear White's Electronics, I purchased my XLT last summer in hopes of doing some detecting at some local old homes for some old coins. I've had a great time so far and wanted to share with you my best finds. A few weeks ago I secured permission to detect at a farm house built in the late 1700's behind my neighborhood. I had been detecting in the front yard of this farm most of the day when I hit a patch of pennies in the front yard where someone must have thrown their pennies in the early seventies. I dug 51 pennies out of an area barely 10' x 10' including 2 wheat pennies. I kept detecting this area because I knew there had to be something good there. I was detecting just a couple of feet from the "penny patch" when I got a nice solid hit reading VDI +92. I pinpointed it and it read only 3" down. I cut my plug and saw the edge of a huge silver coin. I pulled it out of the dirt and nearly fell over! I removed my gloves and gingerly wiped the dirt off so I could see the date but was careful not to scratch it. 1923! After digging 51 pennies, my 52nd coin was a 1923 Peace Dollar! This coin is so beautiful that I wanted to share it with the company that made this find possible for me! Also included are some pictures of my best finds including the 1923 Peace Dollar, an 1898 Barber Quarter, a 1903 Barber Dime, a 1934 and 1920 Mercury Dime, several Indian Head Pennies, a Matron Head Large Cent, 2 Buffalo Nickels, 3 flat buttons, a Revolutionary War Musket Ball and a watch fob. |
