Dear White's, I received a phone call from a friend that was in the same small club and was asked if my dad and I wanted to hunt a public park near Coltsneck. We arrived at the site, which was about ¾ open fields and ¼ grass areas. We split up and wandered around looking for signs of the past. I saw a huge oak tree and headed in that direction. About halfway to the tree I received a faint hit but a clear tone. I swept back and forth a little slower and the hit became clearer, so I began to dig. I dug to about 1 foot but there was still nothing; however, the tone was much stronger. I dug down to 22 inches and pulled out a badge that states “New Jersey Secret Service.” I called the state police museum and explained to them about my find but they had not heard of such an organization in NJ. I called the NJ state museum and received the same reply. I posted it on a forum to which a badge specialist replied stating that the “New Jersey Secret Service” was formed when the Lindburgh kidnapping occurred. It seems that men were deputized as this type of agent and worked the case. The badge number that is on my find matched an officer that was tied to this case. I have enclosed a photo of the badge for your viewing. Another great find with my DFX! I swear I can hear a worm fart with this thing! Sebastiano (NJ) |
