My first opportunity this New Year to get out was on the second
day of January. It was a cool frosty morning with plenty of nip in
the air. I decided to hunt an area that my hunting partners and I
had hunted numerous times over the past year. We had just about
decided we had found everything worth finding. I loaded up the
truck with my MXT and other gear and began the 20 mile trip to our
site. I knew the area that we had hunted repeatedly before and
decided today to hunt the more difficult terrain. I set my MXT in
the relic mode, increased the gain to +2 and began to search. My
first good signal turned out to be a 3 ringer about 8 inches deep
that had evidently been used to start a fire as it was badly melted.
I continued to hunt finding several more bullets in the 5 to 6 inch
depth range. After about an hour I got a good loud signal reading
buckle and 72 VDI. I immediately knew that this was going to be a
good find. I dug down about 10 inches and finally could make the
outline of a round disk that I originally thought was a large cent.
I was certainly surprised to find that it was a 1793 or 1798 Pillar
Dollar Piece of Eight. Even more surprising was that the owner of
this coin had engraved his name on the reverse of the coin - "Akin
Miller's money" is what was etched into the coin. It's hard to tell
how many times we had passed over this coin as we hunted but the MXT
found it. I've owned 5 other detectors over the years and currently
have three, but the MXT will be the one I use in the future. Thanks
White's for such an outstanding detector.
Sincerely,
Mike O.
