My dad enjoyed metal detecting. He never got to put as much time in as he would have liked, but he appreciated the times when he did. He also appreciated the high quality detectors he got from White's. He had a Coinmaster 5900di and moved up to an XLT. I borrowed it a few times and thoroughly enjoyed my experience using it. About twelve years ago, my dad lost his wedding ring - he was sure it happened on a hillside in his back yard. It bothered him greatly and he often tried to locate it with his metal detector. The hillside has a variety of vegetation, some deep and some short, along with bushes and flowers and some flagstone. He was never successful in finding it mostly due to the fact that he was getting older and the hill was fairly steep and difficult to search. Four years later, he was very sick and near death. I desperately tried to find the ring in his yard, both on the hillside and off, but never could. My father passed away without finding the ring.

Recently, my sister decided to take Dad's XLT to the beach. She had some terrific finds (we think Dad helped) and I got the bug to buy my own detector. I bought a Matrix M-6. She and her husband bought their own DFX, too. We decided to go metal detecting at a park to try the new detectors out. We shared thoughts about the detectors and she related to me that she had placed her wedding ring on the ground and tested the DFX. She was surprised how low the number was on the VDI for a gold ring. After a few decent finds, we decided to try another location near my mom's house. We stopped by to see my mom on the way and my sister decided to look again for my dad's ring on the hillside. At first, I wasn't going to bring my M-6 out of the car. But my sister wanted to compare readouts on my detector with her DFX. We stopped for lunch and went back out after eating. I picked up my M-6 and casually walked to a place on the hillside and turned the unit on. I passed the unit over a small area and got an immediate hit. It was a low number. I would have passed it over as foil or a pull tab had my sister not told me of the readout she got on her ring. I called my sister over to pinpoint the location while I dug. I dug a clump of sod and dirt about two inches deep and passed it under the coil. It registered. I began to carefully break the clump apart and initially not seeing anything, I was certain that it would be a pull tab. The with another try, the shining gold of my father's ring was clearly evident. I was stunned, saddened and overjoyed all at once. I took it into my mom's house to present it to her. With joy and disbelief, she exclaimed "What?!! - You're kidding?!". Then she reminded me that it was the anniversary of my father's death!

Those of us at my mom's house were blown away by the find, the date of the find, and how all of the events leading up to it seemed to be choreographed - maybe by my dad.

Thanks White's - I love my detector - it is incredibly accurate and it has already found a treasure beyond my wildest dreams!!
