In June 2011 I purchased a Coinmaster metal detector and a Pro-Pointer (different brand) in Bellingham WA. I thought this would be a fun hobby, getting me outdoors and into the sunshine and walking for exercise.
My girlfriend and I went to a park in Bellingham and were having fun searching with our new metal detector, neither one of us had done this before. We found various coins, wire, bottle caps and foil on our first time out.
Just before we quit I decided to try an area over near the playground under a tree. The metal detector beeped and I dug up a small ring. My girlfriend said she thought it was a little girls ring. I dug some more and to my surprise, found an engagement ring that matched the first ring. It had a big diamond in it. My girlfriend looked and could see that inside the band it had 14 k imprinted there.
We took this set around to various jewelry stores and pawn shops in Bellingham. The highest price that this set was valued at was $3800.00 and we ended up selling it for $1080.00. This was a pleasant surprise so we bought another metal detector and now both enjoy searching and digging together.
