Dear Whites, I thought you would get a kick out of this true story: A teacher I know lost a very valuable ring either at school, or at home. She was certain she took her rings off at school while she put lotion on her dry hands. She thought she put them all back on, but she wasn't certain. That evening when she got home from school she spent a couple of hours pulling dandelions out of the grass in her yard. After pulling the weeds, she noticed her diamond ring was missing. The lady told me the gold ring was very heavy, and worth a lot of money. This ring was an heirloom, and the lady was very distraught about the loss. She knew I liked to metal detect and asked me if I could look for it. I spent two hours or more searching her property. I found a handful of change, and a little metal match box car. No ring signals would show up on my DFX anyplace in this enormous yard. After I scanned the yard twice, I told the lady I was pretty sure the ring was not on her property. She then said she would offer a reward at school. Being a retired teacher myself, I suggested she offer the kids an ice cream party if the kids can find the ring, rather than a reward. I told her an elementary school student might not admit to finding a ring for any kind of monetary reward. Peer pressure might get someone to admit to finding the ring. Kids also brag about things like finding a nice shiny ring. The teacher took my advice, offered an ice cream party if the students could find the ring. She told the students that the ring was definitely lost in her classroom, as she had an expert treasure hunter search her yard and it was not there. The only other place it could be was in her classroom. The funny thing was she had offered a reward the day before to her students, with no response then. Now with her certainty that the ring had been lost in her classroom, and an ice cream party for the entire class, four hands went up instantly with students telling her who found the ring and where it went. The very next day she got her ring back. Previously I had told her if the ice cream trick didn't get her ring back, I would search her property again in a week or so. There was one area that was difficult to search as there was an abundance of metal under the ground making my metal detector sound like a symphony. I was hoping the ring was not there, as it was very annoying to search thoroughly. I did search this area using the high trash mode, and that eliminated all the extra sounds I was hearing when using the high pro option. I was concerned that the high trash mode might also eliminate any sound the ring might make. Anyway, I am enjoying my DFX tremendously. Since getting this metal detector a couple of months ago, I have found a silver quarter, a handful of Wheaties, more than $100.00 dollars in change, and numerous rings. All the areas I searched were considered hunted out. The quarter and the old pennies were down about 5.5 inches in hard packed dirt, covered with gravel. This was a church parking lot. I am sure lots of folks have hunted this parking lot thoroughly in the past, as I found nothing recent in this area. Thank you Whites for making this fantastic metal detector.
