Dear Whites,
This year has been a good one for me and the DFX. I've had great success finding
coins and relics. One of my best coins this year has to be this beautiful
1901 barber half dollar. The story goes like this. After detecting one of
my old cellar holes for a few hours and only coming away with a few old
plain buttons and a 1859 indian head penny (in very poor shape), I decided
to call it quits on this particular spot. Instead of heading straight
toward my truck, I decided to go across the road and walk along an old stone
wall. Well, apparently a barn used to stand in this area and alot of trash
had been dumped over the years. Beer cans, junk iron and shotgun shells
were abundant but I refused to just shut the machine off just because of
all of the junk. Then about twenty or so feet from the truck I hear a
pretty good tone ring out amongst all the junk signals. Tone ID is a great
feature I must say. I pinpointed it at six inches. By this time I'm
thinking an old large cent, so I dig about 4 inches then use my handheld
pinpointer to locate the target. I then grabbed a handful of dirt and saw
a gray disk in the middle. The feeling I got when this barber came out of
the hole was great. I couldn't believe the condition it was in. I am very
pleased that this detector could lock onto a coin in all that junk and
still make it sound good enough for me to want to dig it. Way to go Whites!
Sincerely yours,
Danny L.
