I started Metal Detecting about 8 years ago mainly hunting
around old homesteads, parks and the occasional field. Over
time my interest switched from coins to civil war relics and
knowing I needed a good machine to find these lost pieces of
history, I started researching trying to find the best machine
on the market. In 2004 I decided the DFX was the machine for
me and instantly my collection started growing as I started
finding bullets, buttons and other relics. After taking time
to learn how to program the DFX to get the most out of it I
have made some very nice finds including a 1798 Large Cent, CW
era Virginia button and lots of other very nice relics.
Well every once in a while we have a stand out find and on
Nov 24, 2006 I had the "find of a lifetime" with my DFX.
After hunting all day with friends and finding a few bullets
and a couple of buttons it was closing in on the end of the day
when I got a nice signal at about 6 inches down, after digging
a plug and removing it, I instantly saw the color I had always
wanted to see...GOLD!!
But not just any gold as this was a ring, but not just any
ring, this ring is handmade and hand engraved with a sidewheel
steamboat on the front. At the same time I was digging the
ring my buddy who uses the Whites XLT was digging 2 Louisiana
cuff buttons and another friend was digging another Louisiana
button all from a 10 foot circle.
Right now the ring is being restored and cleaned as well as
authenticated as a Civil War era ring that a confederate
Soldier from Louisiana had lost. My find of a lifetime and one
of the reasons I swear by my DFX as when I am hunting I do not
feel I leave anything behind if I get the coil over it.
Hope you enjoyed,
