Dear White's,

I purchased my White's DFX in June of 2006. I have really enjoyed the metal detecting hobby, I have found numerous old coins and relics, some date back to the mid 1800s.

Last Saturday, I decided to detect a location near my house, the property had a building on it that was the County Poor Farm from the early 1900s. The county recently tore down the building and cut down the trees and pulled the root balls out of the ground. I had hunted the property dozens of times previously, I had found some amazing things, old broaches, Indian head pennies, silver dimes, and a railroad employee's button that dated around 1850. I figured that I would hunt the site one last time before they started construction on the new 911 call center this spring. I never thought I would find what I did that day.

I got an iffy target response, the VDI bounced from +40 to +50. I dig all positive numbers at sites like this one, I have found some terrific relics that don't VDI like coins will. After digging down about 6 inches, I hit something hard. I pried a plastic box containing 50 unfired .22 long rifle shells out of the hole. I stuck my probe in the hole, it indicated that another target remained in the hole. I pulled an additional 3 boxes of unfired .22 shells from the hole. I was puzzled why I would find 4 boxes of ammo buried in the ground when I checked the hole again, I pulled out the derringer.

I took the pistol and ammo home, took some pictures of my finds before and after cleaning. I then took the pistol and ammo to my local police department and turned them in. Searching on the Internet, I found out that the derringer I found was a Buddie Arms Double Deuce .22 caliber pistol. Buddie Arms was located in Fort Worth, Texas. Enclosed are some pictures of my find before and after cleaning.
