Hello Whites,

In 7 years or so of detecting, I have never had a find worthy of your stories section, until now. I would appreciate it if you would share this story with the metal detecting world.

April, 29th, 2009. I had previously received permission to hunt on a private property. There was an old house that had been torn down and I was interested in an old gardening site from the original house. I saw a few old composting bins, and thought I would start there. In a minute or so, I received a very strong signal, then upon re-sweeping, the VDI's were all over the place. I thought my batteries were dying on my trusty old XLT, they were low but still going. I pinpointed, and saw a target at 8 inches. I decided to dig, and hit something right away on the second shovel full. I carefully cleared away the soil to find a small mason jar. My heart rate increased exponentially, and I could hardly contain my excitement. I pulled the jar out of the hole, and could see coins, silver, dollars, and a gold ring. I pulled out the towel, and gave the glass a good wipe down, and realized, I had a camera phone, so decided to document the event in the field. I got the jar open surprisingly easy, and poured the contents into my hand. WOW!, 3 silver dollars, 5 bicentennial silver dollars, 5 halfs, 1 bicentennial half, 1 silver half, foreign coins from 1893, a 1906 Indian head penny, and 2 gold rings each with diamonds, and the coolest thing I have ever found was a .999 pure troy ounce silver coin. I have never seen anything like it before.

I went over to the land owner, a very nice woman in her early 90's, and told her of the find, and wanted to return everything to her so she could show it to her family. She would not hear of it, and insisted that I keep the finds, and enjoy them. She just kept repeating " good for you". Surprised, I returned to my house and photographed the entire cache. On the way home, I was thinking that this must have been a recent stash of a small collection someone wanted to hide. Most of the coins are not that old, 1970's to 2000, but still goes down as my best find so far. I thought the least I could do was share the cache with the metal detecting community.

Way to go Whites, I bought an XLT years ago, and it never fails to amaze me. I am planning on getting an MXT to add to my collection.

Thank you Whites for a fantastic product!
