White's Electronics,

This past July my wife and I decided to take a trip to Oregon to visit relatives. Our plan included some gold prospecting time at The Sixes, Gold Beach and Quartzville, just outside of Sweet Home, Or. We decided to stay in Sweet Home for a couple of days.

When we arrived at our hotel in Sweet Home my wife and I drove up to the Quartzville mining area (about 29 miles out of town) to do some prospecting in the river. I got my MXT out to give it a try. As I began using it an odd thing occurred (or at least I thought it odd). At first when I turned the MXT on the video display refused to come on but all else seemed to be working. After a little knob turning and creative language the video display decided to come on. As I began again detecting with my MXT and as I tilted the unit a little to the left the English characters on the display disappeared from the screen and characters appeared. Tilt the unit back to the right and English would once again appear. Left tilt again, characters, right, English. After watching the detector display do this a few more times I turned the unit off and we headed back to Sweet Home and to the White’s Electronics Headquarters which was fortuitously located right in town.

On arriving at the White’s plant at about 3:30 in the afternoon my wife and I walked into the reception/sales room. I explained my problem to the super nice lady at the counter. She immediately suspected what was wrong with my detector, took it from me and headed to the shop. About 45 minutes later (during which time my wife and I toured their great museum area) she brought the detector back and told me that the problem was fixed. I asked her how much I owed for the repair and she said "nothing, we fix all of our units for free (that come directly to the factory)" She then told me that my detector might need a replacement board soon and if so to bring the detector back or send it to them and they would do the repair.

I mentioned that my wife and I would be in Sweet Home for another day and then would be continuing on with our trip. She then suggested that I leave the unit with her overnight (as their techs had gone home for the evening) and she would see that the needed repairs got done first thing in the morning. I left the unit and we came back the next morning. The detector was ready to go and the receptionist handed it to me and wished us a safe trip.

I was shocked and pleasantly surprised not only by the blind luck of being in Sweet Home, home of the White’s Electronics plant just when I needed their expertise, but mostly by the unbelievable customer service and friendly atmosphere we experienced at the White’s plant. When my wife and I left the White’s plant I commented to her that if all businesses treated their customers as well as White’s does the world would be a much better place.

Thank You White's! By the way, my detector once again works great. I wasn't looking forward to learning Chinese in order to use my detector.
