Beach Hunter ID Paid for Itself

One morning early this June while I was metal detecting on the North Topsail beach in North Carolina, I found a surprise. The tide was starting to come back in since I had missed the low tide by about 2 hours. I was using my new Beach Hunter ID instead of my White’s DFX. I have had great success with the DFX. With the Beach Hunter being water proof I wanted to explore further out in the water without the fear of the machine getting wet.

I was less familiar with using the Beach Hunter so I had a small learning curve, but I was able to quickly overcome it. A lot of the time in nature when something is red you should leave it alone. It’s similar with the Beach Hunter’s light indicator, when it’s red it is not worth digging. I did dig a number of pieces of metal and nails anyway. I always take the trash with me and properly dispose of it.

After a while I received the yellow signal on the Beach Hunter meaning that it was suppose to be a ring. The beach sand had been eroded and only black plant matter was there. The water was about a foot deep and not being able to dig with a scoop I used my left hand to feeling around under the coil. Feeling the round shape of a ring I picked it up and decided it was a silver ring. I placed the ring on a carabiner in order not to lose it. Then I continued to metal detect and finally decided to go back to the dry beach.

There I reexamined the silver ring. Obviously it had been in the water for quite a while because it had crusty deposits of sand on it. After cleaning it off and looking for a makers mark on it, I discovered it was not silver at all, but platinum. When the ring was weighted, it tipped the scale at 11 grams of 950 platinum. Engraved inside the band, it has” WITH ALL MY LOVE”. The best part is it’s just my size! Now I will be able to wear my new platinum ring with my other beach treasure, a silver Seiko Dive watch, but that’s another story.

With one of my first Beach Hunter ID outings, I was able to pay for the Beach Hunter ID if I were to sell the ring at today’s price of platinum. Sometimes a learning curve is not as long after all. Thank you White’s for continuing to make great machines!
