When I first started dating my wife, we talked about hobbies that we had. Coincidentally we both had metal detectors growing up. She was a much more avid detector than I was, but she got me back into the hobby. We started going metal detecting on a regular basis and had lots of fun, even though all we found were some coins. She kept telling me about this fantasy she had of us going metal detecting together one day, finding a ring in the sand, and having me propose on the spot our newly found ring. I really did want to fulfill her fantasy, but didn't want to wait for possible years to find a quality ring worthy of proposal. So I went out and bought a ring at a local jewelry store. The next time we went metal detecting, I waited for a time when she was sifting through some sand, and not looking down at the ground. I bent down and buried the ring in the sand. I ran the metal detector over it, and said, "I think I found something! Come dig it up." She found the ring (which I had wrapped in plastic wrap so it wouldn't get scratched). I said, "What is that?" I took the ring from her, peeled away the plastic, went down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said yes! We got married 8 months later. Whenever we're metal detecting and someone asks if we've found anything good, she shows them her ring. Adam D. |
