After getting my son a Prizm III for Christmas and realizing how much fun detecting is, I purchased an M6 for myself Jan 08. After pulling almost $80 in clad and several sterling silver rings, I really had the itch to pull some old coins. Being that this area has almost no undisturbed ground from all of the construction going on for the past 30 years, I figured my chances were slim to none.

Then in late Feb '08 I went to a large local park on Salem Road that has been detected hundreds of times. Hits were very very slim, and there were a lot of clam shells in the soil so I knew it was an old area where clam bakes were held, so I still kept at it. About an hour later my M6 had a hard hit VDI 94-95 at two inches. I wasn't expecting much while I was digging, after all, the park has been hunted very hard for years.

To my surprise, two inches down, a 1922 LH Peace dollar! It was bent (probably from a Bull Dozer blade when the park was made) but still a sweet find. One week later I went back to the same area and about 60 feet from where I pulled the Peace Dollar, up comes more silver at five inches, 1917 Standing Liberty Quarter (also bent). Although the date on the SLQ is unreadable, from the forums we determined it to be 1917.

It’s amazing how the M6 could pull these out of an area that was hunted so heavily for years. I must have been the first person there with a White’s detector, and very happy that I was.
