1920 AU Mercury Dime found with DFX!
While detecting an 1890's Southeastern Indiana Farmhouse yard, I got a solid 80-81 VDI Penny/Dime reading sweeping the coil in both directions. I was using a DD1400 Deepscan Head on a DFX and it was reading a depth of about 5". This was unusual because the area I was doing had previously been done by my nephew many times with a White's Prizm III. He had found a 1916 Mercury Dime not far from this spot. After digging a plug of about 6" and removing, there was flash of silver at the bottom of the hole. I reached down and pulled out a 1920 Mercury Head Dime in about uncirculated condition. It was in very good shape. I did scrape it with the digger on the obverse side, but it is still a beautiful coin. On the same outing, also found was a 1919 Lincoln Penny at about 7" and several other common date wheat pennies. Settings I used on the DFX were: |
