I’ve been doing some research, and discovered the possible location of a Union Cavalry Civil War encampment in central Virginia. After gaining permission from the land owner, my initial search of the fields turned up 16 bullets and other relics confirming the area was used by those troops.

My friend and I went in together using a White’s MXT and XLT and for the next couple of trips we dug over 300 Spencer bullets and other Civil War relics from that encampment area. Above is a picture of my recoveries from that small site. As you can see I’ve got quite a few whole Spencer bullets, eagle buttons, a Civil War sheet music holder in the shape of a lyre, and a company hat letter insignia “H”.

This was a fun site. I need to find some more like this one. Thanks White’s, for the great detectors.

Hello to all the Good People at White's Electronics,

I had received permission to hunt an old tavern here in the county. It was built in the 1760’s. The owner told me the place had been detected many times before and said “You might find a nail or two that someone else hasn’t.” Comments like that never bother me because I have the best machine made, a White’s DFX.

I was hunting along the west side of the building using the 6 X 10 DD Eclipse coil, when I got a signal that was good but broken at the ends of the sweep. It sounded pretty good to me, VDI was bouncing from + 40 to + 78. I pinpointed a target at 7 inches and dug down about 4 inches and pulled out a cut nail. Checked the hole and the target was still in there at 7 inches. A little deeper and pulled out to more cut nails. Checked again, the target was still in the hole. Then at 7 inches I pulled out a 1776 Spanish half Reale! Amazing!

So yes, I did find a nail or two someone else hadn't. Also some "reale" treasure too. Other finds so far include a Connecticut copper, 1851 Large Cent, a counterfeit 1797 Reale and a Union Breast Plate. How Sweet is that?

 Dear White’s Electronics,

My husband and I have two DFX machines that we love! Having celebrated my 80th birthday this month (October), we headed to the beach for a couple of weeks of fishing and treasure hunting. The fishing was productive for my husband, and the treasure hunting with my DFX was also productive.

I found 7 rings in one day!!!!!!! And a total of 11 rings in 6 days, plus 6 silver coins, 2 Buffalo nickels, 4 religious medals, and enough change to pay for about 9 gallons of gas!!! I am on my way back to the beach!

A couple of weeks ago, I had decided to put the stock coil on my MXT to try it out. When I had purchased my MXT, I bought a DD coil and have always used this since the beginning.

I have only been metal detecting for less than a year, but have been pleasantly surprised by the ease and depth of the MXT. Anyways, I went to a Confederate camp site here in VA near Guinea Station. My buddy and I were digging up a few Gardner bullets and TONS of percussion caps when I got a faint signal.

Since I had found several percussion caps in that same area, I just assumed it was yet another one. I dug the hole and to my surprise it was a cuff sized button. Because of the dirt, I couldn't quite tell what the button was.

Once I got home, I was able to clean it up. As it turns out, it was a North Carolina state seal cuff button (NC-9). This is a pretty rare button and I am definitely proud to own it. Thanks to White’s for making a machine this good and easy to use.

 The BeachHunter 300 does it again

I found another $2,000.00 ring. I started out early at the beach and the surf was pretty rough so I knew I wouldn't be getting to far out in the water. After a few minutes I received a solid tone. After shaking out the sand in my scoop I saw a ring, it turned out to be a small sterling silver tiger eye ring. Some clad, a cross and I left that beach for another.

Arriving at the second beach it was the same, too rough to get too far out in the water so I started hunting the wet sand to the water line. I received a solid signal and a yellow light. Boy was it down deep. It took me four or five full scoops with my large sand scoop. As I looked in I couldn't mistake the great sight of gold in the bottom. I was amazed when I took the ring out and discovered that it was a men's 14K white gold with five diamonds, weight 9.3 grams. My wife researched it on the web site and found an identical ring that sells for $2,449.

A few months back the BeachHunter 300 found a 14k Blue Sapphire ring valued at $2,000. White’s published my story on their web site and I never thought I would ever find another ring as nice as that, but to do it in the same year absolutely is amazing. The Beachhunter 300 loves finding rings. I can attest to that since this year alone I have found a total of 43 rings.
