Hello again to all at Sweet Home,
My name is Matt M. and I'm in my 5th year with the DFX. I've started the year off with a bang here in Michigan. I went downstate for the weekend to my brothers house to do some detecting and we found a construction site on Michigan avenue, and the one find I got for the day was the oldest coin I've ever pulled out yet. I am told it is a 1740-1745 King George british coin. It has a bullet hole through the center which is what I believe makes this find so historic. After help with research from a friend I learned of the Massacre at River Raisin which is a historic battle of the War of 1812 between British troops and American troops fighting by River Raisin. From what I read online, lots of American soldiers were executed wrongly and this brought quite an upcry from the Kentuckian troops and the northeastern territories to come to aid to the American cause.
In closing I believe this coin was shot sometime during the war of 1812 as a angry example to the British. We will never know for sure, but In my mind i believe this is why it is shot through the center where King George is pictured. Thanks again for a great machine Whites!
