White's,

I just wanted to let you know that I have had loads of fun with my DFX! Not only does it find the coins it gives me a chance to spend time out with my hunting buddy! She loves going TREASURE HUNTING! She will likely get herself a Prizm as soon as she is tall enough to use one! :-) Here are a few finds from a recent hunt. Thanks White's for hours of fun!

Special Wedding Band Find

Dear White’s

I’ve been metal detecting for 20 years-16 with a White’s Eagle Spectrum, and now with the XLT. People unfamiliar with the hobby often ask “What’s the best thing you ever found?” I now have the answer.

A while back, a local newspaper columnist named Mary wrote a sad story about how her husband of six months, Mark lost his wedding ring while they were camping together. Not only was the ring a precious symbol of their marriage, it held a special place in their hearts for yet another reason.

Prior to their wedding, they attended silversmith classes and made their own rings out of the gold wedding bands that Mary’s deceased grandparents had bequeathed her. This is what made the loss even more difficult to accept.

As soon as I read her story, I thought perhaps I could find the ring with my White’s Eagle Spectrum. I called Mary, relayed my hunch and asked her if I could at least attempt a search. She immediately said yes and added that they had been camping three and a half miles inside the Pennsylvania Lackawanna State Forest when the ring became lost. That made me a bit apprehensive, but I still offered to try.

We arranged a date and they drove me to a parking area, from which we began a three-and-a-half mile hike to the campsite. When we arrived, I asked a few questions about their activities relative to preparing the site.

Mark mentioned at one point that he had been chopping wood on a log and pointed it out. I suspected that this might have been where the ring came off.

I asked Mary to hold her ring up and I waved the Eagle Spectrum over it. The VID reading was 27. Perfect! I thought, and began to swing the coil near the log. After only a few swings it sounded off that the VID reading was 27. I reached under some wet leaves and there it was-the beautiful and special wedding band. Right then and there we all did the “happy dance”, with lots of hugs all around.

For me, nothing can top that experience. And to this day, it’s by far the best thing I ever found. Thanks to White’s for making the best detectors in the world

Dear White's,

I'm not big on detecting modern areas for modern coins. I like to hunt for old coins, at old sites. Here in rural America, most of the sites I like to hunt are currently fields of corn and soy beans. I think it would be fair to say that summer time is not my favorite time of year for metal detecting.

There is one local park, however, that I do occasionally detect. It has served this community for nearly 150 years of band concerts, ball games and picnics. To say it has been hunted hard by dozens of detectorists is an understatement. However, it still surprises me once in awhile with an old IH cent or a Barber dime.

Today's hunt definitely surprised me! Equipped with my MXT and the small DD coil, I worked my way across the park to an area where the old bandstand used to be. No more than a few steps into my hunt, I got that solid sweet sound of a coin. VDI indicated a quarter that was just below the surface. True to its analysis, I found a clad quarter just under the sod.

Nearing an old park bench, I was stopped in my tracks by a very loud target response. Expecting to find a VDI of another quarter, I was surprised to see it indicating the numbers that usually represent a half dollar or silver dollar. With a depth indication of only 3-inches, I figured it was probably a piece of aluminum can that had gone through the lawn mower several times.

On the other hand, it might be a clad half or a couple adjacent quarters. (White's detectors do count change, you know!) It is huge, it has a high level of conductivity and it is shallow! You can only imagine my surprise when I caught that first glimpse of silver. Not wanting to damage it, I carefully worked my fingers around the target and instantly felt it was too big for a half dollar and too thick for a silver dollar.

Brushing away the dirt, I realized that I had found an old silver pocket watch. Further examination revealed it was a 17 jewel pocket watch with ornate carving around the rim, and the image of an old locomotive engraved on the back. I suspect it is an old Railroad pocket watch. But I won't know for sure until I do some more research. What I do know is what started out to be a beautiful day to go detecting tuned out to be a great day for "finding". Thanks to White's Electronics and my MXT, I was able to locate a beautiful time-piece, from a different place in time.

Thank you White’s!

I could not be happier with my MXT 300 which I purchased on June 5th of this year. After I brought it home, I watched the instructional video, read the manual, and went out digging!

I was immediately impressed when I went to a house that was built in 1800 (which I'd been over multiple times in the past) and found deeper items I never would have heard with my old detector! The depth on this thing is incredible!

I continued to use my new MXT 300 every chance I got, and really got a good feel for the machine after a few days. Since then I've had great success in Civil War relic hunting here in Virginia. I spend all my spare time in the woods and fields with my MXT 300. I am now going back to 'hunted out spots' with confidence, and finding deeper relics that I missed before. I was so excited when bullet after bullet comes out of the ground in an area that I'm SURE I'd been over before!! It's like places that I've hunted in the past are 'brand new' spots now!!

The best day yet with my MXT 300 came the other day when I was out with some good friends and dug this beautiful Confederate Manuscript 'I' coat button! The VDI # was around 40, and the depth showed about 2 inches. I had never dug a button that I could confirm as 'Civil War', and was ecstatic when this one popped out of the ground!! This button alone was worth about $300!! (Although I have no intentions of selling it!)

I am enclosing pictures of the button and many more finds I've made with the MXT 300. By the way, thanks for including the free Bullseye Pinpointer with the detector! It sure saves a lot of time sifting dirt out in the relic woods! Thank you for bringing me so much success in my relic hunting!

Hi!

Well, I successfully made it out into my yard with my new MXT. It became apparent quickly, on my first try, that the 300 loop the detector came with was just too big and so I picked up the 5.3 coil. Trying again, it was much better at separating out multiple targets. After three hours last night my yard yielded in a 3 by 5' area:

17 nails

2 Christmas lights

1 Light bulb base

2 Pieces of foil

1 Section of dog chain

1 Gate turnbuckle

32 feet of copper pipe

1 Screw

1 Nut

1 Iron pipe cap

2 Pennies (1 wheat)

So not a get rich story but a very happy one because I am very pleased with finding items as deep as 19" with the 5.3 coil, the ability to switch between prospect and coin modes on the fly (very helpful!) and the exercise I got in. The Bullseye II was also a fun little toy and very handy once I got the feel for it.

I am so stiff and sore today, but what a blast!
